International award-winning and established actress,
Kasia Smutniak is one of the most intense faces in the contemporary scene.
Anti-diva par excellence – she is able to shift in no time from the glamour of the red carpet to the silence of Mustang (Nepal) – where she build and runs the Solar Ghami School that she founded in 2011 with the Pietro Taricone Foundation, in order to preserve the region’s cultural heritage.
Kasia has been able to impose, with kindness and determination, her own personal style in the various fields in which she has worked, from cinema to fashion.
She was born in Warsaw (Poland) in 1979 in a military family. From her father Zenon, polish aviation general, she inherited the passion for flying and at the age of only 16 took a pilot license. At the same age she was scouted as a model.
Kasia then moved to Italy and started a successful career with photographers and international magazines, working all over the world.
Always passionate about cinema, she also began to study acting. In 2000, at 21, she made her big screen debut and from that moment on she continued acting in films and quality television dramas. In 2008, Kasia received her first award, the Globo d’Oro for “Best debuting actress of
the year” (for the film “Nelle Tue Mani” by Peter Del Monte),
that lead to her first European Nastro d’Argento.
Directed by important Italian and international directors,
Kasia then starred in several films including “Caos Calmo” by Antonello Grimaldi with Nanni Moretti (2008),
“Tutta Colpa di Giuda” by Davide Ferrario (2009), “La
Passione” di Carlo Mazzacurati” (2009), “From Paris with
Love” by Pierre Morel (2010) and “The Fourth State” by
Dennis Gansel (2010).
At the same time, she was much sought after as the
testimonial for prestigious brands such as Armani (Idole
fragrance in 2011) and Fendi (Furiosa fragrance, 2014).
In 2012 she was the Godmother for the Venice Film Festival and starred in more films: “Tutti Contro Tutti” by Rolando Ravello and “Benvenuto Presidente” by Riccardo Milani.
Kasia also acted in several successful TV series such as “Volare”, about the life of Italian singer Domenico Modugno, “In Treatment” (the Italian version of the popular US drama) directed by Saverio Costanzo (also director of the tv series ”My brilliant friend”) and “Limbo”, where she interpreted a soldier and for which she won Best Actress Award at the Rome Fiction Fest.
In 2014, Kasia won the Nastro d’Argento Award for Best
Actress thanks to her performance in the film “Allacciate
le Cinture” directed by Ferzan Özpetek.
In the following year the actress was cast in “Meraviglioso Boccaccio” by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani.
In 2016 she starred in “Perfetti Sconosciuti”, the award winning film by Paolo Genovese (that won the David di Donatello for Best Film, the Nastro d’Argento for best comedy and special award for the cast, the Globo d’Oro and the Ciak d’Oro).
In 2017 she starred in “Husband and Wife” by Simone Godano and in 2018 she won the Nastro d’Argento for best supporting actress in “Loro 1” and “Loro 2” directed by Oscar winning director Paolo Sorrentino.
In 2019 Kasia will be starring in the movies “The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle” directed by Stephen Gaghan with Robert Downey Jr., Rami Malek and Selena Gomez, “Dolce fine giornata” by Jacek Borcuch with Krystyna Janda and “Nieznajomi” by Tadeusz Sliwa with Tomasz Kot and Maja Ostaszewska and in the Sky TV series “Devils” directed by Nick Hurran with Patrick Dempsey and Alessandro Borghi.
